While the sidebar is open, the main highlighted item will be the current app or game in use. Everything else we are condensed and can still be navigated with the sidebar open. The items will be able to be customized as well. Allowing users to add and remove items as they see fit.

Here is a prototype of how the dashboard action menu will expand and subsequently collapse the main screen to show more options and features.

XBOX

Dashboard Project

As an avid gamer, my XBOX is sometimes my refuge, hangout spot, and multi-dimensional time machine. However, having to navigate the XBOX dashboard at times can be cumbersome, and being a working adult, time to game can be scarce. So I took it upon myself to redesign the dashboard to something more practical and clean. Only providing the user with basic/necessary menu items in the beginning but allowing the user with the ability to fully customize their menu to tailor to their experience.

The design above is loosely based on the current UI, however, I trimmed it down a bit to only show necessary menus that encapsulate the whole XBOX experience, while making it easier to customize and add more menu items if the user desires.

For my next approach, I wanted to do something even more simplistic and by adding a somewhat minimalist touch. The main screen prominently shows the game you're playing as well as navigation to the library and store, but once the XBOX button is pushed the menu collapses and a sidebar appears from the left with more items.
